What Is Orofacial Myology?

Orofacial Myology (also known as Myofunctional Therapy) is the neuromuscular re‑education of the muscles of the face, mouth, and throat. It focuses on restoring optimal function in:

  • Breathing

  • Chewing

  • Swallowing

  • Tongue posture

  • Oral rest posture

  • Facial muscle balance

OMT plays a vital role in addressing conditions such as:

  • Mouth breathing

  • Tongue thrust

  • Orofacial muscle imbalance

  • Orthodontic relapse

  • TMJ dysfunction

  • Sleep‑disordered breathing

  • Breastfeeding challenges

  • Craniofacial growth and development issues

By retraining dysfunctional patterns, clinicians can support healthier airway development, improved oral function, and enhanced overall well‑being.
